The NAACP Youth Council is a Seattle-based organization that advocates for racial equity and sensitivity policies in the Seattle Public School System. We were founded in 2017, with the goal of bringing youth voices into discussions on issues that affect them. We now represent over ten high schools in Washington State, with our members representing many ethnicities across those schools.
OUR FOCUS:
TRAINING AND DEVELOPING THE SKILLS NECESSARY FOR LEADERSHIP AND ACTIVISM. MOBILIZATION, COMMUNITY EDUCATION, AND YOUTH ACTIVITIES ARE ESSENTIAL FOCUS AREAS OF THE YOUTH COUNCIL.
YOUTH COUNCIL
Joining the NAACP means so much more than membership within an organization: you are becoming a part of a community. Youth members are some of the most active supporters in our ongoing efforts to protect, defend, and fight for civil rights.
CORE OBJECTIVES
NAACP youth units across the country engage in social justice activism, addressing issues at the local, state and national level, with a primary focus on education, economic development, health, juvenile justice and voter empowerment.
ACT-SO
The NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) is a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students.
WHEN YOUTH RISE, THEY TRANSFORM
As the bloodline of the NAACP, we look to you to give the association the fire, fuel, and motivation to keep advancing through the trials of being a person of color in America.
NAACP CONNECT
NAACPConnect is all about you -- young people excited to move this country forward. Tell us why you're getting involved with NAACPConnect -- your plans and your experiences will inspire others to get involved too. Sharing your story is the first step to connecting with others
TAKE ACTION
We are looking for middle and high students, from all racial backgrounds, who are interested in developing skills necessary for leadership and activism aimed at securing equality for all people.
